Redevelopment Plans

It is the aim of the RCH to provide care to all of its residents to the highest standard, delivered by well-trained and motivated staff. The RCH can currently accommodate up to 28 residents who are encouraged to treat the Home as their own.
The buildings currently housing the RCH were not designed for the provision of residential care and, with the passage of time and increased regulation, it is becoming more difficult for the Charity to meet present day requirements.
At a meeting of the Planning Committee in November 2020, followed by a further meeting in February 2021, our application was refused permission, contrary to the recommendation of the Planning Officers. In partnership with the Sheppard Trust the Trustees appealed the decision. We are therefore delighted to report that in October 2021, following a visit from the Planning Inspector, the Inspector published his decision for the redevelopment of the Royal Cambridge Home, together with the proposed development of the extra care units for Sheppard Trust, to go ahead. More information will be published in due course.
